1. Malland, City of the Tome Overview
Arguably the most notorious city in the known world, Malland is home to the Second Tome of the Goddess Herself, as well as two powerful organizations that revolve around it. Namely, the Order of the Blue Flame and the Mages’ Guild of Malland, both of which share custody over the Tome and leadership over the city.
2. Brief history of Malland
In the last century of the Second Age, traders from Nar’Séquia routinely made the journey between the Derebari city-states, in the Great Delta, and the Nar’Séquian colonies of the north. Merchant guilds, seeking to ease this harsh trip, established relays along the trade route, providing fresh mounts, food and shelter. One of these posts was built on the current location of Malland. It quickly became the busiest, serving as a meeting point not only for the caravans, but also for the ships moving along the Rivers-Between-the-Seas.
The settlement remained nothing more than a trading post until the Year 49 of the Third Age, when prospectors dug up the Second Tome of the Goddess Herself from a mine underneath it. Arcane practitioners had been sensing for years the presence of a magical entity beneath the town, but no one went down to investigate. There was a legitimate concern that something demonic could be locked up in the deeps, something too powerful to be set free, but in the end, the prospectors found the Tome, a local Cleric of Cafirie immediatly recognized it for what it was, and the settlement soon became the center of the known world.
